Katharina Coleman is a Professor in the Department of Political Science at the University of British Columbia (UBC), Faculty of Arts. She specializes in International Relations with a focus on international organizations, peace operations, and African international relations. Her research examines UN peacekeeping, security norms, and the role of non-state actors, particularly in sub-Saharan Africa.
Dr. Coleman holds a Ph.D. from Princeton University. Her work explores topics such as UN peacekeeping reforms, the political economy of troop contributions, and the legitimacy of international interventions. She has authored/co-authored over 30 peer-reviewed articles and books, including International Organisations and Peace Enforcement (2007) and edited volumes on African agency in global politics.
Her recent research highlights challenges in UN peacekeeping, including troop deployment practices, national staff contributions, and the evolving dynamics of international norms. She emphasizes the interplay between African diplomacy and global security frameworks, as seen in studies of African Union-UN partnerships.
Dr. Coleman advises graduate students focusing on peacekeeping, international security, and African international relations. She has held leadership roles in research networks and frequently contributes to policy discussions on global governance and peacebuilding initiatives.
