Dr. Anne Flaspoeler is an Assistant Professor in International Relations at Durham University's School of Government and International Affairs. Previously, she served as a Teaching Fellow in Defence, Development and Diplomacy at the Durham Global Security Institute, a Postdoctoral Researcher at the EDDA Research Center, and a Course Coordinator for the United Nations University Gender Equality and Studies Programme (UNU-GEST) at the University of Iceland. She holds a PhD from the University of Leeds and has professional experience with Malteser International.
- Current Research: Focuses on AHRC/FCDO-funded studies of peacekeeper protection mandates in the DRC and Somalia, examining civilian-military interactions and norm diffusion.
- Research Themes: International Practice Theory, Women, Peace and Security, Security Assistance in the Global South, African Regionalism.
Her work evaluates the intersection of peacebuilding theory and practice, particularly in post-conflict settings. Publications include a Routledge book African Peacekeeping Training Centres: Socialisation as a Tool for Peace? and peer-reviewed articles on norm transfer, training complexities, and military peacekeeping practices.
Collaborations: Co-authored research with J. Bakonyi, G. Lugano, and M. Thill on protection mandate implementation in African peacekeeping missions.
