Kath Nicol

Dr. Kath Nicol is a Lecturer in the Dietetics, Nutrition & Biological Sciences, Physiotherapy, Podiatry & Radiography Division at Queen Margaret University. She has 22 years of teaching experience in applied human physiology across allied health professions and nursing programs. Currently, she is a joint programme leader for the MSc (pre-registration) Physiotherapy and the Physiotherapy subject area disability coordinator. Her doctoral research focused on neuroanatomy and repair mechanisms in the inner ear, complemented by work as an associate lecturer at the Open University. Her research interests include barriers to physical activity in mental health conditions, neurogenesis, and exercise interventions for dementia and schizophrenia patients.

Teaching responsibilities include physiology for physiotherapy, dissertation supervision, and research methods at undergraduate and postgraduate levels. She actively collaborates on projects such as falls prevention in dementia and delirium identification in stroke patients. Dr. Nicol employs both quantitative and qualitative research methods.
