Kate Salters is an Adjunct Professor at Simon Fraser University (SFU) and a Research Scientist with the Epidemiology and Population Health program at the BC Centre for Excellence in HIV/AIDS. She holds a PhD in Health Sciences (2017), an MPH in Global Health (SFU), and a BA in Community Health Sciences (Brock University). Her research focuses on HIV/AIDS and hepatitis-related health outcomes, treatment adherence, and community-based methodologies to address health inequities. She has over 11 years of experience in HIV/AIDS epidemiology, with a particular emphasis on cancer epidemiology among women living with HIV and the intersection of mental health, stigma, and healthcare access.
Her work includes analyzing mortality trends, treatment disengagement, and the impact of substance use and violence on HIV care. She collaborates on initiatives like the Comparative Outcomes and Service Utilization Trends (COAST) study and the Canadian HIV Women’s Sexual and Reproductive Health Cohort Study (CHIWOS). Her contributions span peer-reviewed articles on topics ranging from antiretroviral therapy adherence to overdose-related mortality in HIV-positive populations.
Dr. Salters advocates for policies that integrate community perspectives into clinical practice and public health strategies. Her research emphasizes marginalized populations, including those experiencing homelessness, substance use, or systemic discrimination. She is affiliated with SFU’s Faculty of Health Sciences and actively contributes to the BC Centre’s mission to combat HIV/AIDS through evidence-based interventions.
