Sonia Napravnik, PhD, is an Associate Professor in the Department of Epidemiology at the University of North Carolina's Gillings School of Global Public Health. Her research focuses on HIV/AIDS epidemiology, chronic disease management, substance use, and healthcare outcomes in vulnerable populations. She leads studies addressing comorbidities in people with HIV, including cardiovascular health, cardiometabolic disorders, and adherence to antiretroviral therapy (ART). Her work integrates genomic, clinical, and social determinants to improve health equity and clinical care.
Dr. Napravnik collaborates with the Centers for AIDS Research Network of Integrated Clinical Systems (CNICS) and other national cohorts. Her recent projects include analyzing polygenic risk scores for chronic kidney disease, evaluating statin use in HIV populations, and assessing interventions for chronic pain management. She also investigates disparities in hepatitis C treatment outcomes and the impact of substance use on HIV treatment adherence.
