Kate Ricci is an Adjunct Professor in the Department of Graphic Design at Moore College of Art & Design, where she teaches User Experience (UX) Design. Her professional background spans several years in UX design for streaming entertainment platforms, as well as freelance work that bridges corporate and socially impactful design projects.
Her research and teaching interests center around human-centered, ethical, and accessible design practices. She emphasizes critical thinking in her classroom, encouraging students to question design norms and understand the logic behind usability. Her influences include designers like Dan Mall and Brad Frost for developer-designer collaboration, and ethicists like Cennydd Bowles and Ruha Benjamin for promoting inclusivity in design.
Her recent professional work reflects a dual focus: one foot in enterprise and streaming UX, and another in design for social good. She values interdisciplinary approaches and sees the combination of graphic design and UX as a powerful, 'unicorn'-like synergy.
Kate has highlighted the importance of understanding how systems work, drawing from early experiences observing technology repair. Though not formally listed, her educational path includes a master's in art history, which she left to pursue active design practice.
She advocates for inclusive design mascots like a Philadelphia-inspired version of the Guerrilla Girls, reflecting her commitment to equity and representation in the design world.
