Dr hab. Katarzyna Lukas, Professor at the University of Gdańsk, is an Associate Professor at the Faculty of Languages, Institute of German Philology, Division of German Language and Translation Studies. She has been employed at the University of Gdańsk since 2008 (initially as an adiunkt) and was promoted to Associate Professor (profesor uczelni) in 2019. She completed her German studies at Adam Mickiewicz University (UAM) and has received numerous awards including the University of Gdańsk Rector's Award in 2019 for her monograph 'Fremdheit – Gedächtnis – Translation: Interpretationskategorien einer kulturorientierten Literaturwissenschaft'.
Her research focuses on translation theory, comparative literature, and cultural memory studies, with particular emphasis on German-Polish literary relations. She has published extensively on topics related to the works of W.G. Sebald and Bruno Schulz, exploring how cultural memory functions in literary translation. Her scholarly output reveals consistent engagement with the interplay between language, memory, and cultural identity in translation processes.
Professor Lukas has received multiple distinctions including the University of Gdańsk Rector's Award in 2019, 2014 (group award), 2012 (for teaching excellence), and 2010 (for her doctoral dissertation). She is a member of the Polish Germanists Association (since 2009) and the Central European Germanists Association. She has served as co-editor of the 'Danziger Beiträge zur Germanistik' series published by Peter Lang and has contributed to numerous editorial boards including 'Studia Germanica Gedanensia.'
Her academic activities extend to international collaborations, having received scholarships from OEAD (Vienna University Institute of Translators, 2000/2001, 2004) and DAAD (Leipzig University, 2014). She regularly holds consultations with students on Wednesdays and Fridays from 10:30-11:15 in room 179.
