Dr. Katarzyna Borkowska is a Lecturer in Education at the University of Glasgow's School of Education (People, Place & Social Change department). She joined in October 2023, previously serving in the School of Social & Environmental Sustainability since 2017. Her research focuses on gender inequalities, sustainable development goals (SDGs 4/5/10), and non-formal education programs in LMICs. Key projects include 'The Equality Project: Starting from Home' in East Africa and domestic violence prevention in Rwanda using the 'Tree of Life' narrative framework.
Education: PhD (2013) and MEd (2007) from University of Glasgow. Teaching expertise includes postgraduate courses on Identities, Relationships, and Behaviours; Perspectives on Youth; and Research Methods. She was Programme Leader for Enhanced Practice in Education (Masters) and Youth Studies (Masters).
Research grants include £10k (2024) for domestic violence prevention storytelling and £72k (2019-2021) for gender equality projects. Over 10 published works span masculinity theories, smart cities, and university roles in crises. Collaboration partners include Rwanda Women’s Network and University of Duhok.
Supervision: Completed PhD student Dr Ellen Vanderhoven on VET youth transitions in Mexico. Advocates student-centered pedagogy emphasizing critical thinking for social change.
