Karl Baden is an Associate Professor in the Department of Studio Art at Boston College, part of the Morrissey College of Arts and Sciences. He holds an M.F.A. from the University of Illinois at Chicago Circle and a B.A. from Syracuse University. His work focuses on photography and digital art, with exhibitions at prestigious institutions such as the Museum of Modern Art (New York), Museum of Fine Arts (Boston and Houston), and international venues like Photokina (Cologne) and the Photographers Gallery (London). He has received multiple awards and fellowships, including support from the National Endowment for the Arts and various state cultural councils. Baden has taught at Harvard University, Rhode Island School of Design, and other institutions before joining Boston College in 1989. His courses include Art and Digital Technology, Digital Diaries, and Photography I.
Baden’s research and creative work emphasize photography and visual arts, with his pieces featured in permanent collections at the Guggenheim Museum Library and the Addison Gallery of American Art. His career blends academic teaching with artistic practice, reflecting a commitment to both education and contemporary art.
