Greer Muldowney

Greer Muldowney is an Assistant Professor of the Practice of Photography at Boston College’s Art, Art History, and Film department. She holds a B.A. in Studio Art and Government from Clark University (2006) and an M.F.A. in Photography from Savannah College of Art and Design (2011). Her work critically examines policy impacts on landscapes, housing, and communities through photography and video installations. She has curated exhibitions nationally, including Undergraduate Photography Now and Landscape as Fetish, and serves on boards like the Griffin Museum of Photography and Midway Artist Studios.

Research Interests: Muldowney’s practice merges documentary photography with socio-political critique, focusing on urban policy, gentrification, and environmental ethics. Her work Urban Turbines (2017) interrogates energy infrastructure, while Monetary Violence (2022) explores economic displacement. Her projects often involve collaborative methods, such as the Sham Shui Po documentary (2011) with 12 students.

Exhibitions & Awards: Key solo exhibitions include Urban Turbines (Gallery Kayafas, 2016) and These Environments (Clark University, 2015). She is a 2013 Massachusetts Cultural Council Fellow and a 2014 PDN 30 honoree. Recent works like Olmsted’s Bicentennial (2023) celebrate urban planning legacies.

Teaching & Mentorship: Muldowney teaches at Boston College, Lesley University, and Boston University. She mentors MFA candidates and advises on professional development for emerging photographers through Undergraduate Photography Now. Grants and curatorial roles further her advocacy for arts accessibility and affordable housing.
