Professor Karin Leder is a renowned academic and clinician at Monash University, serving as co-lead of the Planetary Health Division and Head of the Infectious Diseases Epidemiology Unit in the School of Public Health and Preventive Medicine. She also directs Monash’s Health and Climate Initiative and co-leads the RISE program, focusing on environmental health in informal settlements. Her roles include clinician at the Victorian Infectious Disease Service and leader of GeoSentinel, a global surveillance network for imported infections.
Education and Credentials: MBBS, FRACP, FAAHMS, PhD, MPH, DTMH (expertise in infectious diseases, public health, and tropical medicine).
Research Interests: Prof Leder’s work centers on environmental health, climate change impacts, waterborne diseases, and antimicrobial resistance. She investigates transdisciplinary approaches to improve sanitation and reduce exposure to pathogens in vulnerable regions. Her research emphasizes the Asia-Pacific region, particularly the effects of climate adaptation and nature-based solutions.
