Melanie Hutton is a Research Fellow in Microbiology at Monash University, part of the Monash Biomedicine Discovery Institute (BDI). She specializes in infectious disease research, particularly focusing on Clostridium difficile pathogenesis and antimicrobial therapies. Her work contributes to Sustainable Development Goals related to health and sustainable communities.
Her research interests include microbiology, antibiotic resistance, gut infections, and pre-clinical drug testing. She collaborates with industry partners like Immuron Limited and has secured grants from NHMRC Australia. She is actively supervising PhD students through Monash’s Medicine Faculty.
Recent projects include testing colostrum-based therapies, studying host proteases in enteric infections, and evaluating novel antibiotics. Her work spans mouse models, in vitro/in vivo drug testing, and translational research.
