Karin Buhmann is a Professor of Sustainability Law and Governance at Copenhagen Business School (CBS) and the University of Southern Denmark (SDU). She holds roles as a Center Leader at the Centre for Law, Sustainability & Justice and is affiliated with the OECD National Contact Point for Responsible Business Conduct. Her expertise lies in sustainability governance, business and human rights, risk-based due diligence, and Arctic sustainability. She has held roles in both academia and public service, including civil servant positions with the Danish Ministry of Justice and Foreign Affairs.
Education: Dr.scient.adm, PhD, Master of International Law, cand.law & exam.art.
Research focuses on fair transitions, corporate sustainability due diligence, and the intersection of law and sustainability. She leads major projects like the FRONTIERS initiative exploring sustainability governance and the Arctic Academy for Sustainable Development. Her work bridges legal frameworks with practical implementation, emphasizing stakeholder engagement and transnational regulation.
Publications span over 190 works, including books and peer-reviewed articles on topics like non-financial reporting and climate justice. She actively contributes to policy debates, media commentary, and international networks such as the BHRights Initiative and GREEN-SORT.
