Dr. Karen Lancendorfer is a Professor of Marketing and Director of the Advertising and Promotion Program at the Haworth College of Business, Western Michigan University. She holds a Ph.D. and M.A. from Michigan State University and a B.S. from Eastern Michigan University. Her research focuses on political advertising, crisis management, corporate image, and consumer behavior. She has published widely in journals such as the Journal of Business Research and Harvard International Journal of Press/Politics. Dr. Lancendorfer advises the WMU AdClub, an AAF-affiliated student organization, and has received multiple awards including the 2011-12 Distinguished Teaching Award.
Her teaching spans undergraduate and graduate courses in marketing principles, integrated campaigns, media planning, and political marketing. She previously served as Vice President and 2014 President-Elect of the American Academy of Advertising and remains on the editorial board of the Journal of Interactive Advertising. Prior to academia, she worked in advertising agencies like Brogan & Partners and Century 21.
Research interests include leveraging virtual communities for brand equity, consumer reliance on online reviews, and the impact of social media on marketing strategies. Her work bridges theoretical frameworks with practical applications, particularly in crisis response advertising and political marketing.
