Justine Ballon is an Assistant Professor at HEC Montréal's Department of Management. Her research focuses on cooperatives, social innovation, sustainable development, and organizational behavior. She holds a PhD in Economics from Université de Paris Cité and advanced degrees in Human Resources Management and Strategic Management from institutions in Paris and Rennes.
Her work integrates action research with participatory methods, emphasizing cooperative governance, circular economy practices, and socio-political challenges. Key projects include analyses of Coopaname and Railcoop, exploring tools for democratic decision-making and empowerment. She has published in journals like Business Strategy and the Environment and Revue de la Régulation, and co-authored the book Changer de direction? Récits croisés de transmissions dans les coopératives (2022).
In 2021, she won the RIODD CCMP Award for her pedagogical case study on Coopaname's management tools. She teaches courses on social innovation, sustainability, and organizational dynamics at HEC Montréal.
