Justin Lamb serves as the Visiting Assistant Professor of Music and Percussion Area Coordinator at Oakland University's School of Music, Theatre and Dance. He is an active performer, educator, composer, and arranger based in the metro-Detroit area.
Dr. Lamb holds MM and DMA degrees from the Eastman School of Music, where he received the Performer's Certificate, Milton Schlesinger Percussion Prize, and Arts Leadership Certificate. He earned his Bachelor's Degree from Furman University. His principal teachers include Michael Burritt, James Ross, Chip Ross, Rich Thompson, Dr. Omar Carmenates, and Justin Watt.
Specializing in contemporary percussion performance, Dr. Lamb has premiered numerous new works by composers including Paul Lansky, John Psathas, Michael Burritt, and others. He is particularly committed to commissioning new music for percussion, having organized international consortiums to commission works by Connor Shafran and Brant Blackard. His performance credits include The John Psathas Percussion Project (JP3), Vol. 1, and appearances at the Percussive Arts Society International Convention in 2024. As Principal Percussionist of the Oakland Symphony Orchestra, he has performed featured works including Michael Torke's marimba concerto Mojave and John Williams's Escapades.
Dr. Lamb maintains active involvement in music education at multiple levels. He has taught at Eastman School of Music, Eastman Community Music School, and various high schools in South Carolina, Georgia, and New York. He is passionate about teaching younger percussionists and continues to work as a clinician, percussion arranger, and adjudicator in the marching arts. His popular marimba arrangement of "Misty" by Erroll Garner has gained international recognition.

Dr. Lamb's professional activities span performance, education, composition, and advocacy for contemporary percussion music. He maintains an active performance schedule with orchestras and theater productions throughout Michigan while fulfilling his academic responsibilities at Oakland University.
