Michael Burritt is the Paul J. Burgett Distinguished Professor of Percussion and Chair of the Woodwinds, Brass, and Percussion Department at the Eastman School of Music, University of Rochester. He holds a Bachelor's (1984), Master's (1986), and Performer's Certificate from Eastman. Previously, he was Professor of Percussion at Northwestern University (1995–2008).
His career spans four continents, with solo performances with ensembles like the Dallas Wind Symphony, Nexus, and Third Coast Percussion. He has recorded Home Trilogy with Nexus and the Joseph Schwantner Concerto with the Calgary Wind Ensemble.
As a composer, Burritt’s works are standard repertoire for international competitions, including pieces commissioned by the World Marimba Competition and Paris Percussion Group. He designs marimba mallets and instruments for Malletech, and endorses Zildjian, Evans, and Yamaha.
He has held leadership roles in the Percussive Arts Society, including President Elect and Board Member, and contributed to Percussive Notes magazine.
