Dr. Steven Owen is a percussionist, timpanist, and drum set artist affiliated with Shepherd University’s School of Music and The President’s Own United States Marine Band in Washington, DC. He performs concerts, tours, and ceremonial events nationally, with notable soloist appearances in works by Michael Colgrass, David Maslanka, and Jeff Tyzik. Dr. Owen also contributes to the Marine Band’s chamber music series and has composed original pieces like The Four Humors.

Dr. Owen’s research and performance interests span orchestral percussion, contemporary chamber music, and drum set artistry. He has collaborated on transcriptions of works like Joseph Schwanter’s Concerto for Percussion and participated in international tours, including a nationally televised performance in Tokyo, Japan.
As an educator, Dr. Owen has conducted clinics and masterclasses across the U.S., served on The Capital Symphonic Youth Orchestras’ artistic staff, and presented at Percussive Arts Society International Conventions. His freelance career includes performances with the Oregon Bach Festival Orchestra, Eugene Symphony, and regional symphonies in Maryland and Virginia.
