Gerald Scholl is a Professor and Head of the Percussion Department at Wichita State University's College of Fine Arts. He serves as principal timpanist/principal percussionist with the Wichita Symphony Orchestra, principal timpanist with the Tulsa Symphony and Ballet Orchestra, and percussionist with the Colorado Music Festival Orchestra. He leads the award-winning Impulse Percussion Group as artistic director and conductor, and performs with WSU’s Faculty Jazz ensemble.

His research and performance interests focus on percussion performance techniques, chamber music collaboration, and music education initiatives. Notable performances include Michael Daugherty’s timpani concerto Raise the Roof and Russell Peck’s The Glory and the Grandeur, broadcast on CBT television. He has toured internationally in Europe, Asia, and the Middle East.
As an educational artist for Zildjian, Vic Firth, Pearl Drums, and others, Scholl delivers masterclasses across the US and Europe. His outreach programs include Wild World of Drums for young audiences and the Kettlestring percussion/violin duo with his wife.
Performance credits include collaborations with Victor Wooten, Johnny Mathis, and the Count Basie Orchestra, plus Broadway shows like Wicked and Titanic.
