Junenette Peters, ScD, is an Associate Professor of Environmental Health at Boston University School of Public Health. She specializes in environmental epidemiology with a focus on understanding how environmental pollutants interact with social determinants of health to impact cardiovascular disease, cognitive impairment, and respiratory illness. Her work is supported by grants from the National Institutes of Health (NIH) and the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA).
Education:
- ScD in Environmental Health, Harvard School of Public Health
- MA in Geology, Boston University
- MA in Environmental Studies, Boston University
- BA in Political Science, Indiana University of Pennsylvania
Research Interests: Dr. Peters’ research uniquely combines environmental exposure assessment with social determinants analysis. Key areas include:
- Long-term health impacts of aircraft noise exposure on cardiovascular outcomes
- Cumulative risk assessment from chemical (metals) and non-chemical stressors
- Lead exposure interactions with psychosocial factors
- Environmental justice implications of pollution exposure
Grants & Collaborations:
- NIH/NIEHS: Aircraft Noise Exposure and Cardiovascular Disease (2016-2021)
- FAA: Community Measurements of Aviation Emissions Contribution to Ambient Air Quality (2013-2026)
- Department of Defense: Metal Exposure Impacts on Military Veterans (2023-2026)
Labs/Teams: Leads the Aviation Health Research Group focusing on noise pollution and cardiovascular epidemiology at the BU Superfund Research Program. Collaborates with the Harvard T.H. Chan School of Public Health and the VA Normative Aging Study.
