Jon Levy is a Professor and Chair of the Department of Environmental Health at Boston University School of Public Health, and an Associate Director of the BU URBAN PhD program. His research focuses on urban environmental exposure and health risk modeling, emphasizing spatiotemporal patterns and environmental justice. He leads interdisciplinary projects on air pollution, indoor environmental health, and climate-related health impacts, collaborating with community organizations and policymakers.
Education: ScD in Environmental Health from Harvard School of Public Health, and a BA in Applied Mathematics from Harvard College.
Research Interests: Air pollution exposure assessment, health risk equity, near-airport communities, aviation noise impacts, transportation emissions, and indoor air quality interventions. He co-directed the CRESSH Center, addressing housing-related environmental stressors. His work integrates community engagement and systems science approaches.
Grants and Funding: Lead or co-PI on multiple NIH, EPA, and NSF grants, including studies on climate policy health co-benefits, environmental justice in transportation, and Mystic River watershed resilience. Collaborates with environmental justice organizations to assess equity in emissions reductions.
Labs/Teams: Involved with BU’s Urban Climate Initiative and the Institute for Sustainable Energy. Active on National Research Council committees and EPA advisory groups, contributing to policy on clean air and risk analysis.
