Patricia Fabian is an Associate Professor of Environmental Health and Associate Director at the Institute for Global Sustainability at Boston University. She leads the Sustainable Built Environment Lab, focusing on extreme heat resilience, indoor air quality, and energy transitions in urban settings. Her work integrates spatial analytical methods and interdisciplinary approaches to address multi-stressor environmental challenges. Dr. Fabian holds a ScD from Harvard School of Public Health, an MS from the University of Colorado Boulder, and a BS from Tecnológico de Monterrey.
Her research spans climate adaptation strategies, built environment impacts on health, and environmental justice. Notable projects include studies on heat vulnerability in Chelsea and East Boston, leveraging electronic health records and geospatial data. She co-directs the Consortium for Climate Risk in the Urban Northeast and collaborates with the BUSPH Center for Climate and Health and the BU Hariri Institute for Computing.
Publications highlight innovative methods like machine learning for CO2 sensor networks in schools and geospatial analysis of greenspace benefits. Her grants include funding from the Barr Foundation and UMass Lowell for climate resilience and energy equity projects.
