Gregory Wellenius is a Professor of Environmental Health at the Boston University School of Public Health and serves as Director of the Center for Climate and Health. He is also a Core Faculty member of the Boston University Institute for Global Sustainability (IGS). His career spans academia, with prior roles at Brown University and Harvard Medical School, and collaborations with industry (Google), NGOs (Health Effects Institute), and climate resilience coalitions (Adrienne Arsht-Rockefeller Foundation Resilience Center).

Dr. Wellenius’s research focuses on quantifying health impacts of climate hazards, particularly heat and air pollution, using novel data sources and machine learning. His work explores cardiovascular effects, heat resilience strategies, and environmental justice in urban settings.
Recent publications highlight interdisciplinary approaches to climate and health, spanning heat wave modeling, urban park equity, wildfire smoke exposure, and heat alert optimization. His studies leverage large databases, geospatial analysis, and partnerships with policymakers.
