Professor Julie Hulme is a Professor of Psychology Education at Nottingham Trent University (NTU), leading the Psychology Scholarship Research in Higher Education Group. She holds a prestigious National Teaching Fellowship (2016) and is a Principal Fellow of the Higher Education Academy. Her work focuses on psychological literacy, inclusion in higher education, and student well-being.
Education: BSc (Hons) Biology & Psychology (First Class, Keele University, 1996), PhD in Auditory Neuroscience (Keele University, 2003), PG Cert in Learning and Teaching in Higher Education (Keele University, 2003).
Research: Julie’s research spans two core areas: Psychology Education (emphasizing psychological literacy, employability, and global citizenship) and Inclusion (focusing on marginalized students’ transitions, belonging, and neurodivergent/disabled student experiences). She employs qualitative methods and partners with students in co-research.
Publications: Over 80 peer-reviewed articles, book chapters, and edited volumes. Recent work includes the International Competences for Undergraduate Psychology (ICUP) framework and studies on student experiences with chronic illnesses.
Awards: National Teaching Fellowship (2016), Principal HEA Fellowship (2013), and recognition for leadership in psychology education.
External Roles: Deputy Chair of the Association of National Teaching Fellows, Visiting Fellow at the University of Manchester, and steering group member for Student Minds’ Student Space. She also serves on editorial boards for Psychology Learning and Teaching and Frontiers in Education.
