Julie Sutton is a Principal Lecturer and Primary Lead for School Based Provision at the University of Worcester's School of Education. With over 15 years of experience in Primary education, she has held leadership roles including Deputy Head Teacher and Senior Teacher. She currently oversees the PGCE Primary School Direct programme and leads apprenticeships initiatives. Her work spans music education, teacher professional development, and strategic educational partnerships.
Education: MA in Education (Merit), BEd (Hons) in Education and Music, PG Cert in Learning and Teaching in Higher Education. She is also a Senior Fellow of the Higher Education Academy (HEA).
Research and Practice: Julie specializes in Primary music education, having led music provision in schools, delivered County-wide CPD sessions, and chairs the Worcestershire Music Hub Steering Group. She actively performs with orchestras like The Elgar Chorale and has founded music groups for young children.
Awards: Recognized as a Senior Fellow of the HEA (2020).
Advising & External Roles: External examiner for Exeter University and the University of Winchester. Involved in safeguarding, mental health first aid training, and professional development programs.
Labs/Teams: Leads the Worcestershire Music Hub Steering Group and collaborates with schools across the West Midlands and South West in teacher training and apprenticeship programs.
