Julian Nowag

Julian Nowag is an Associate Professor in EU Law at Lund University's Department of Law and an associate at the Oxford Centre for Competition Law and Policy. He serves as Director of Lund's Master Programme in European Business Law and acts as managing editor for The Journal for Antitrust Enforcement.

His academic credentials include a DPhil and MSt from the University of Oxford, an LLM in European Legal Studies from Durham University, and undergraduate law studies completed in Germany and Austria. He is additionally a qualified lawyer in Germany with professional experience at the German Competition Authority, European Commission (DG Comp), and Allen & Overy.

Nowag specializes in the intersection of EU constitutional frameworks and economic regulation, with particular expertise in competition law's environmental integration. His research examines sustainability imperatives within antitrust enforcement, DMA implementation challenges, and global competition law enforcement dynamics. This work directly contributes to UN Sustainable Development Goals through environmental and competition law synergies.

His recent publications (2024-2025) reveal a concentrated research trajectory addressing digital market regulation through the DMA lens, climate-energy-competition law interfaces, and sustainability-driven antitrust evolution. Nowag has supervised doctoral research including M. Hjärtström's dissertation on 'Competition Law's Market Failure Paradox'.
