Dr Julia Nicholls is a Lecturer in French & European Studies at King's College London, based in the Department of European & International Studies within the School of Politics & Economics. She holds a PhD in History from Queen Mary University of London, following a BA in History and MPhil in Modern South Asian Studies from King's College, Cambridge.
- Affiliations: Faculty of Social Science & Public Policy, Critical European Studies Research Group.
- Research Interests: 19th-century French history, political/social thought, Marxism, labor movements, slavery studies, and critical theory.
Her research examines intellectual histories of revolutionary socialism, comparisons between slavery and wage labor, and the concept of droit au travail. Recent publications include a monograph on post-Paris Commune thought (Cambridge University Press, 2019) and an article on empire and internationalism in French socialist thought (Historical Journal, 2016).
Teaching focuses on modern French history, politics, and political thought. Office hours are Tuesdays 9-10 AM and Thursdays 2-3 PM.
