Judith Geichman is an Adjunct Professor in the Painting and Drawing Department at the School of the Art Institute of Chicago (SAIC). She holds a BS from Ohio State University and an MFA from SAIC. Her teaching spans courses such as Standard Drawing: Representation/Abstraction and Painting Studio A: Multi-Level, emphasizing explorations of abstraction, materiality, and interdisciplinary practices. Geichman’s work has been exhibited widely, including at the Museum of Contemporary Art Chicago, National Academy Museum in New York, and international venues like Iceland’s Gilfestag residency.
Her research interests focus on abstract painting, contemporary art processes, and the intersection of studio practice with critical theory. Notable publications include critiques in Chicago Magazine, Newsweek, and New American Painting, which highlight her contributions to avant-garde techniques and pedagogy. Awards include the National Endowment for the Arts Fellowship and residencies at the American Academy in Rome.
Geichman actively mentors students through post-baccalaureate and graduate programs at SAIC, emphasizing independent studio projects and critical discourse. Her work is part of major collections such as the Illinois State Museum and Rockford Art Museum, reflecting her sustained impact on contemporary art education and practice.
