Dr. Joyceline Alla-Mensah is a Lecturer in Education at the School of Education, University of Glasgow (2024–present), previously holding roles at the University of Lincoln (2021–2024) and as a researcher at the Open University (2017–2021), where she co-led the Youth and Transitions hub at the Centre for the Study of Global Development. She holds a Ph.D. in Education from the University of Nottingham, an MSc in Development Studies from the LSE, and a BA in Political Science and Sociology from the University of Ghana.
Her research focuses on vocational education’s role in non-traditional labor markets, gender barriers in skilled trades (e.g., automotive industry in Ghana), migration’s impact on training systems, and education for marginalized communities like refugees. She has explored ICT integration in informal apprenticeships and distance learning practices in Ghanaian institutions.
Recent work includes analyzing sexual and reproductive health access for refugees in Uganda and consulting on human trafficking policies. She has secured grants for initiatives such as the MEWANE program for early-career researchers in West Africa (British Academy, 2024–present) and projects on comprehensive sexuality education in refugee settlements (Open University Impact Grant, 2021–2022).
Her professional activities include keynote speaking at the National Vocational Education Conference (Namibia, 2023) and international conference presentations on TVET and migration. She has published widely on gender equity in vocational training and doctoral education dynamics across multinational contexts.
