Dr. Yvonne Commodore-Mensah is a Professor and Associate Dean for Research at the Johns Hopkins School of Nursing. She also serves as the Director for Local/Global Reciprocal Innovation at the Johns Hopkins Center for Health Equity. Her work spans multiple Johns Hopkins-affiliated centers, including the Center for Cardiovascular & Chronic Care, Welch Center for Prevention, Epidemiology and Clinical Research, and the Johns Hopkins Center for Health Equity.
Her research focuses on cardiovascular disease epidemiology, health equity, global health, and social determinants of health, with a special emphasis on African and African-descendant populations in the U.S. and Africa. She employs community-engaged research and implementation science to develop and evaluate interventions that reduce disparities in hypertension and cardiometabolic conditions.
The recent publications highlight a strong trend in examining cardiovascular risk across racial and immigrant groups, evaluating self-measured blood pressure for equity, and addressing chronic disease in global and underserved contexts. Her work consistently integrates social determinants, community engagement, and data-driven intervention design.

Dr. Commodore-Mensah is the principal investigator for major studies including the ADHINCRA, LINKED-BP, and LINKED-HEARTS programs. She mentors students and early-career researchers, and her leadership extends to national boards such as the Preventive Cardiovascular Nurses Association, American Heart Association, and the Nursing is STEM Coalition. She is President and Co-founder of the Ghanaian-Diaspora Nursing Alliance (G-DNA), promoting nursing advancement in Ghana.
She directs the Glocal Cardiovascular Health Equity Lab and co-directs the Cardiometabolic Health Interest Group at Johns Hopkins, fostering interdisciplinary collaboration to address global cardiovascular disparities through innovation and reciprocal partnerships.
