Dr. Joyce Mgombelo is an Associate Professor in the Department of Educational Studies at Brock University's Faculty of Education. She holds a PhD in Mathematics Education from the University of Alberta. Her research focuses on mathematics cognition, identity, and ethics-based human cognition, informed by enactivism, complexity science, and psychoanalysis. She leads projects like the SSHRC-funded 'Educating for the 21st Century' and the Canada Global Affairs project on mathematics teaching in Tanzania. She has held roles including Program Director for the Joint PhD in Educational Studies and Associate Dean, Research and Graduate Studies.
