Joshua T Selsby

Dr. Joshua T Selsby is a Professor in the Department of Animal Science at Iowa State University, with courtesy appointments in Kinesiology and Biomedical Science. He leads the Disease and Muscle Dysfunction Lab, focusing on muscle injury mechanisms in conditions like Duchenne muscular dystrophy (DMD) and environmental heat stress. His research aims to develop therapeutic strategies to mitigate muscle damage and enhance agricultural outcomes. Dr. Selsby is also affiliated with interdepartmental programs in Genetics and Genomics, Molecular, Cellular, and Developmental Biology, and Nutritional Sciences.

Research Interests: Dr. Selsby’s lab investigates autophagy dysfunction in DMD progression, the role of obesity and insulin resistance in muscular dystrophy, and heat stress impacts on skeletal muscle physiology. His work combines cellular and molecular approaches to understand disease mechanisms and develop treatments.

Grants & Collaborations: Funded by NIH, USDA, and DMD advocacy foundations, his research explores therapeutic interventions like nutraceuticals and pharmacological agents to counteract muscle damage. Collaborations include studies on porcine models and translational approaches to human health.
