Peter Arthur

Peter Arthur is an Associate Professor at the School of Molecular Sciences, The University of Western Australia. He holds a BSc and PhD from the University of Western Australia and is a Senior Fellow of the Higher Education Academy. His research focuses on reactive oxygen species (ROS) and their role in cellular dysfunction linked to over 80 chronic diseases, including muscular dystrophy and diabetes. He develops biomarker technologies to monitor oxidative stress in humans and animals.

Arthur leads interdisciplinary projects such as the development of plasma albumin oxidation assays and biomarkers for Duchenne Muscular Dystrophy. He has secured 42 grants, including funding from NHMRC and Duchenne UK. His work bridges basic research and translational applications, emphasizing biotechnology commercialization.

His teaching expertise includes biochemical education and laboratory pedagogy, with a focus on enhancing student engagement through modern techniques and problem-solving. Collaborative efforts include improving laboratory curricula and digital education strategies.

Arthur’s research group collaborates internationally, addressing topics like exercise-induced muscle damage, fetal lung inflammation, and taurine therapy for muscular dystrophy.
