Joseph Lin is a Professor in the Department of Biology at Sonoma State University, affiliated with the College of Science, Technology, and Business. He holds a Ph.D. from the University of California, San Francisco (2003), and completed postdoctoral research at Washington University in Saint Louis. His research focuses on T cell activation mechanisms and redox biology, particularly the signaling pathways governing immune responses and autoimmune disease prevention. He teaches courses in molecular biology, immunology, and virology.
Research interests include molecular and cellular biology, signal transduction, immunology, and the chemical biology of hydropersulfides. His work explores how T cells balance pathogen response and self-tolerance, with a focus on intracellular signaling pathways and redox regulation. Recent studies investigate hydropersulfides' roles in cellular protection, antioxidant defense, and redox signaling.
Selected publications span topics like hydrogen sulfide biochemistry, hydropersulfide reactivity, and oxidative stress responses. His lab's findings contribute to understanding redox biology's role in health and disease. Teaching responsibilities include advanced courses such as Immunology (BIOL 480) and Molecular Virology (BIOL 383).
