Joseph Holden holds the Chair of Physical Geography at the School of Geography, University of Leeds, and serves as Director of water@leeds and the Yorkshire Integrated Catchment Solutions Programme (iCASP). His expertise spans peatlands, hydrology, soil dynamics, and carbon cycling under environmental change.

Research focuses on peatland hydrology, agricultural impacts on water quality, and hazard cascades like flooding and pollution. He leads major projects including:
