Josef Hallberg is an Associate Professor in Pervasive and Mobile Computing at Luleå University of Technology, holding dual roles as the pedagogical coordinator at the Department of Computer Science, Electrical and Space Engineering and a Distinguished University Teacher. His research focuses on human-computer interaction, e-health, and smart environments, emphasizing technology to enhance human well-being. He leads the computer science programs and teaches courses on software engineering, human-computer interaction, and workplace well-being. His online course, 'Workplace Wellbeing: How to Build Confidence and Manage Stress,' was ranked among Class Central's top 100 global courses in 2021.
Education: M.Sc. and Ph.D. in Computer Science from Luleå University of Technology. Research interests include gamification for health motivation, assistive technologies, and sustainable technology integration. He co-founded the Human Health and Activity (H2Al) Laboratory and has authored over 40 peer-reviewed publications, with notable contributions to activity recognition and personalized machine learning.
Teaching contributions include courses on object-oriented programming, sustainability, and equality in technology. He has been recognized as an 'Excellent Teacher' at Luleå University of Technology. Beyond academia, he actively participates in the Pentecostal Church, role-playing games, and family-centric activities, prioritizing work-life balance.
