Agneta Larsson is an Assistant Professor at Luleå University of Technology (LTU), affiliated with the Department of Health, Medicine and Rehabilitation. Her work focuses on medical sciences, particularly the interplay between environmental conditions, human behavior, and mobility. She holds a Master’s in Medical Science from Karolinska Institutet and a PhD in Physiotherapy from LTU. Her research explores how subarctic environments, seasonal climate changes, and infrastructure design impact elderly populations’ movement and well-being, with a special emphasis on fall prevention, self-efficacy beliefs, and age-inclusive urban spaces.
She is a board member of the Nordic Society for Circumpolar Health (NSCH) from 2018 to 2024, advocating for polar healthcare research. Currently, she leads Work Package 4 (WP4) in the European Space University for Earth and Humanity (UNIVERSEH), addressing equity, inclusion, and sustainability in education and mobility. She contributed to the Access Abisko research program (2020–2022), which advanced global change studies in the Arctic. Her teaching spans public health, ergonomics, and workplace safety, emphasizing human-environment interactions and international collaboration.
Her recent publications analyze policy gaps in Nordic Arctic outdoor spaces, methodological frameworks for Arctic mobility research, and the role of non-materialistic values in well-being. She collaborates across disciplines—natural sciences, social sciences, and design—to tackle complex Arctic challenges, such as climate adaptation and health-promoting community planning. Despite no explicit awards listed, her extensive grants include funding from the Nordic Council of Ministers and the Kamprad Family Foundation. She actively supervises students and has led courses in risk analysis, qualitative methods, and academic leadership.
