Jorge Vasconcelos

Jorge Vasconcelos serves as a member of the Board of Trustees at the Calouste Gulbenkian Foundation since June 2022. He holds current academic appointments as Visiting Professor at the University of Lisbon (Instituto Superior Técnico) and the European University Institute in Florence, where he founded the Florence School of Regulation in 2003. His professional roles include presidency of NEWES (New Energy Solutions) since 2007, chairmanship of the Consultation Board at the Institute for Advanced Sustainability Studies (Potsdam), and former leadership of ERSE (1996-2006) and CEER (2000-2005).

His academic credentials include a degree in electrotechnical engineering from the Faculty of Engineering of the University of Porto (1982) and a doctoral degree from the University of Erlangen-Nuremberg (1985).

His research focuses on Energy Regulation and Energy Policy, with significant contributions to European regulatory frameworks. His work bridges Sustainability and Electrical Engineering through practical applications in energy sector governance. The establishment of the Florence School of Regulation demonstrates his commitment to advancing regulatory science in energy markets and environmental policy.

He founded the Florence School of Regulation at the European University Institute, which serves as a hub for research on regulatory governance across energy, communications, and transport sectors, fostering collaboration between academia, regulators, and industry stakeholders.
