Jorge Gaspar

Jorge Gaspar serves as Professor in-cathedra of Geography at the University of Lisbon since 1979, with additional roles as Visiting Professor at the Institute Superior Técnico (Technical University of Lisbon) since 1994. His career began in 1965 at the School of Fine Arts, Technical University of Lisbon, progressing through academic ranks to his current position while maintaining international teaching engagements across Europe, Brazil, and Asia.

His educational foundation includes a 1972 PhD in Human Geography and 1965 Geography degree from the University of Lisbon, complemented by postgraduate studies at Sweden's University of Lund (1966-1968) funded by the Calouste Gulbenkian Foundation. He received an Honoris Causa degree from Spain's University of León in 1995.

Gaspar's research explores critical intersections of human geography with societal structures, examining urban-regional dynamics, electoral systems, European integration processes, and telecommunications impacts on territorial development. His work emphasizes how spatial organization shapes political behavior and regional transformation within evolving European frameworks.
