Jorge Garcia is a Research Assistant Professor in the Department of Anthropology at the University of Vermont (UVM), affiliated with the College of Arts and Sciences. He currently serves as a Researcher for UVM’s Consulting Archaeology Program (CAP). Prior to this role, he worked as an Archaeologist and Cultural Resources Specialist for the U.S. Department of Agriculture in Mississippi and as an Anthropology Professor at Stetson University. He has taught courses at the University of Central Florida and the University of Florida, where he also advised study abroad programs.
Dr. Garcia holds a Ph.D. in Anthropology from the University of Florida (2019), and B.S. and M.A. degrees in Anthropology from the University of Central Florida. His research focuses on historical ecology, paleoclimatology, bone biochemistry, and stable isotope analysis, particularly in Latin America. He explores foodways, mobility patterns, and dietary reconstructions through interdisciplinary approaches. His work integrates participatory archaeology and cultural resources management, with field projects spanning the Bolivian Amazon, Colombian Andes, Ecuadorian Pacific Coast, and Maya sites in Belize.
Dr. Garcia’s expertise includes forensic anthropology, archaeological laboratory methods, and regulatory archaeology. His career combines academic teaching, field research, and applied cultural resource management across multiple regions in the Americas.
