Thomas Hart is an Assistant Professor in the Department of Anthropology at New Mexico State University. A specialist in paleoethnobotany and archaeology, his research focuses on the Maya region of Central America and Mexico, particularly the role of ancient agriculture and environmental factors in the rise and collapse of Maya civilization in Belize. He also investigates food use and social organization in Paleo-Indian and Archaic North America, as well as Chalcolithic and Early Bronze Age Mesopotamia.

Dr. Hart directs the annual NMSU Belize Summer Field School, which trains students in archaeological methods through hands-on excavation and lab work at Maya sites like La Milpa. The program emphasizes interdisciplinary collaboration with institutions such as the University of Texas at Austin.
