Jonas Borell serves as Senior Lecturer in the Department of Ergonomics and Aerosol Technology at Lund University's Faculty of Engineering. He holds key roles as Principal Investigator at NanoLund: Centre for Nanoscience, Deputy Director of the Centre for Healthy Indoor Environments, and member of both the Metalund Profile Area (Nanoscience and Semiconductor Technology) and LU Profile Area: Light and Materials.
His research spans ergonomics, human factors, and occupational safety with emphasis on indoor environmental quality, crisis management systems, and open office dynamics. Borell investigates noise sensitivity, disability-inclusive disaster planning, and physical workplace parameters affecting performance and well-being, contributing directly to UN Sustainable Development Goals for health and safety.
Recent publications demonstrate interdisciplinary reach across mental health interventions, crisis scenario workshops, and radiation safety education. His work consistently bridges theoretical frameworks with practical applications in workplace design and emergency management systems.
- Best Paper Award: The Use of Protective Hearing Devices and Perceived Noise Disturbance and Social Climate in Open Office Environments (2024)
- Levipriset 2020 (2020)
Borell supervises graduate research and leads significant projects including 'Work environment safety with robots at construction sites' (Forte-funded, 2025-2028) and the Centre for Healthy Indoor Environment (CHIE). He actively participates in collaborative networks like 'Framtidens Hälsolandskap' and 'Next Generation Healthscapes' addressing future health landscapes.
As core member of NanoLund and CHIE, he coordinates multidisciplinary teams investigating aerosol technology, nanoscience applications, and healthy indoor environments through experimental facilities and industry partnerships.
