Birgitta Nordquist serves as Senior Lecturer at the Division of Building Services within the Faculty of Engineering at Lund University. She holds leadership roles as Chair of the Centre for Healthy Indoor Environments (CHIE) and as Profile Area Member for both Aerosols and the Circular Building Sector.
Her educational background includes a PhD in Building Services Engineering from Lund University's Faculty of Engineering. Research focuses on creating healthy indoor environments through ventilation systems, energy efficiency, and sustainable building practices. Key areas include window opening behavior in residential buildings, sustainable renovation solutions, and the critical interaction between human behavior and technical systems.
Publications demonstrate consistent focus on water damage prevention in Nordic buildings and indoor air quality in energy-efficient renovations. Her work bridges theoretical modeling with practical measurements across schools, daycare centers, and residential buildings, emphasizing renewable energy integration and hygienic climate standards.
Current research projects include Improving Sustainability by Reducing Water Damage (2024-2026) and Bättre inomhusmiljö-vädringsvanor i flerfamiljshus (2022-2025), with significant collaboration through the Urban Arena network and CHIE center. She actively participates in professional activities including SWESIAQ seminars and public lectures on healthy sound environments.
Teaching encompasses 16 different Master's level courses since 1993, currently leading Building Services components across 31 higher education credits. Course content focuses on indoor climate, ventilation systems, heating solutions, and energy aspects in buildings for civil engineering and architecture students.
