Jon Ord is a Professor at the University of St Mark and St John, affiliated with the School of Education. With 20 years of experience as a youth work practitioner, his teaching and research focus on youth work theory, social policy, and outdoor education. He led a major European research project (2016-2018) on youth work impact across five countries.
His qualifications include a PhD in Curriculum and Experiential Learning from the University of Wales, a PG Diploma in Youth & Community Work from Lancaster University, a PG Cert in Existential Counselling from the University of Sheffield, and a BA in Philosophy & Physical Education from the University of Wales.
Ord's research explores how policy shapes youth work practice, management of youth services, and experiential learning methodologies. His recent publications analyze European youth policy, trauma-informed practices, and community responses to food poverty. Articles consistently demonstrate interdisciplinary approaches combining social policy, psychology, and education theory.
As programme leader, Ord advises students but no specific advisees are named. He serves as trustee of Tavistock Youth Cafe and advises the DCMS/National Youth Agency on curriculum development.
