Dr. Johny Daniel is an Assistant Professor in the School of Education at Durham University and a Fellow of the Wolfson Research Institute for Health and Wellbeing. He holds a Ph.D. and M.Ed. from The University of Texas at Austin and an M.Ed. from Vanderbilt University. His research focuses on teacher professional development, inclusive education, and evidence-based reading interventions for students with learning difficulties such as dyslexia. He leads multiple grants including open educational programs for primary students, comparative studies on teacher training across nations, and national pupil database analyses.
His research interests include reading interventions, learning disabilities, and special education policy. Notable projects involve creating open educational resources for dyslexic students and investigating gender disparities in special needs identification. Dr. Daniel has published in top journals like Annals of Dyslexia and Journal of Learning Disabilities, and serves as co-Editor for Review of Education and PLOS One. He advises three doctoral students and actively collaborates internationally on projects in India, England, and Taiwan.
