Dr. Johnny Kim is a Professor at the University of Denver's Graduate School of Social Work. A licensed clinical social worker (LCSW), he earned his Ph.D. from the University of Texas at Austin and is a Council on Social Work Education Minority Clinical Fellow with prior experience as a school social worker.
His research develops and evaluates solution-focused brief therapy (SFBT) applications across diverse populations and settings. Recent work includes meta-analyses validating SFBT efficacy in medical contexts, substance abuse treatment, and school-based interventions. He champions evidence-based practice through systematic reviews and randomized trials, with particular attention to cultural adaptations for Latino and Chinese populations.
Dr. Kim has authored four books on SFBT methodology and maintains leadership roles as Chair of the Solution-Focused Brief Therapy Association Research Committee. His teaching focuses on clinical theory, cognitive-behavioral therapy, and school social work practice.
