John Wesley is a Professor and Chair of the Department of English at the University of Puget Sound. He specializes in medieval and early modern literature, Greco-Roman rhetorical theory, and the history of the English language. His research examines the sixteenth- and seventeenth-century reception of rhetorical theory, focusing on the canon of delivery, early modern acting styles, literary imitation, and the role of the body in vernacular development.
- Joined faculty in 2011 after Andrew W. Mellon Postdoctoral Fellowship at University of Toronto
- Current project: First-ever critical edition of Richard Mulcaster's Elementarie (1582)
His work intersects with historical studies of education, linguistics, and rhetoric. He teaches courses like Medieval and Renaissance Lit (ENGL 231-A) and Genesis (CONN 137-A) in Fall 2025.
