معرفی
Andreas Madlung is a Professor of Biology at the University of Puget Sound, specializing in plant molecular biology and evolutionary genomics. His research focuses on phytochrome signaling in plants, particularly how light receptors influence development, and the evolutionary implications of polyploidy. He has received the 2024 Lynwood W. Swanson Scientific Research Award for his contributions to scientific discovery and mentoring.
Education: Staatsexamen in Biology (University of Hamburg, 1995), PhD in Botany (Oregon State University, 2000). Teaches courses including Molecular Biology, Plant Physiology, and Biostatistics. His lab has been funded by the National Science Foundation for studies on phytochrome functions and polyploid genome evolution.
Research Interests: Functional genomics of phytochromes, evolutionary consequences of polyploidy, and plant responses to environmental signals. Current projects explore light-regulated transcriptional networks and the role of phytochromes in auxin and photosynthetic pathways.
Grants/Awards: NSF grants (2011–2026), Swanson Award ($20,000 grant supporting student research). Lab members include undergraduates and graduate students involved in phytochrome mutant analysis and genome-wide studies.
Lab Activities: The Madlung Lab collaborates on functional genomic approaches, combining RNA-seq, proteomics, and classical physiological methods. Projects include synthetic allopolyploid analysis and the role of phytochrome variants in tomato development.
