John M. Ringman, MD, MS is a Clinical Professor of Neurology at the University of Southern California, holding the Helene and Lou Galen Endowed Professorship in Neurology. His research focuses on early detection and mechanisms of Alzheimer’s Disease (AD) and related neurodegenerative disorders, with an emphasis on clinical neuroimaging, biomarkers, and genetic factors. He leads studies in dominantly inherited Alzheimer’s disease (DIAN cohort) and contributes to Latin American dementia research initiatives.
Key research themes include amyloid and tau pathology dynamics, cerebrovascular health in AD, and translational neuroimaging techniques such as DTI, PET, and advanced MRI methodologies. His work bridges genetic, proteomic, and clinical data to understand disease progression and improve diagnostic tools.
Recent publications highlight advancements in cross-sectional studies comparing AD biomarkers across populations (e.g., Down syndrome vs. autosomal dominant AD), validation of imaging protocols like DTI-ALPS for glymphatic system assessment, and clinical trial analyses of anti-amyloid therapies.
- Key Projects: Dominantly Inherited Alzheimer Network (DIAN) observational and clinical trials, CTSI-funded studies, and international collaborations in Mexico.
- Biomarker Focus: CSF proteomics, vascular dysfunction, and neuroinflammation in AD pathogenesis.
Labs/Teams: Active in the Mary S. Easton Center for Alzheimer’s Disease Research at USC, collaborating with neuroimaging and genetics groups to advance early intervention strategies.
