معرفی
Randall J. Bateman, MD, is the Charles F. and Joanne Knight Distinguished Professor of Neurology at Washington University School of Medicine in St. Louis. He is a principal investigator in the field of Alzheimer’s disease (AD) research, focusing on pathophysiology, biomarkers, predictive diagnostics, and treatments. His lab pioneered the use of central nervous system Stable Isotope Labeling Kinetics (SILK) to study protein dynamics in humans and developed the first high-precision blood test for Alzheimer’s disease amyloid plaques, now clinically available.
- Affiliations: WashU Neurology, Tracy Family SILQ Center, Dominantly Inherited Alzheimer Network (DIAN), DIAN-TU Trials Unit.
Research Interests: Bateman’s work centers on unraveling the kinetics of neurodegenerative proteins (e.g., amyloid-beta, tau) in AD and other tauopathies. His team employs SILK techniques to measure in vivo protein production and clearance, advancing understanding of disease mechanisms and diagnostic tools. Key contributions include identifying circadian patterns of amyloid-beta, elucidating secretase processing, and validating blood biomarkers rivaling PET and CSF tests.
Scientific Awards:
- 2023 Lifetime Achievement Award in Alzheimer’s Disease Therapeutic Research
- Bold Pioneer Award
Leadership & Impact: Bateman co-founded C2N Diagnostics, led the Study to Evaluate Amyloid in Blood and Imaging Related to Dementia (SEABIRD), and actively collaborates with academic and industry partners. His research has demonstrated the potential of blood tests for early AD diagnosis and staging, promising transformative access to millions of patients globally.
